To Robert Burns
A Tribute to Scotland’s National Bard and the Spirit of Honest Verse
Of Robert Burns without a drink
His poetry was often written
When by the demon drink was bitten
He had a heart, there’s no denying
He was a lad, forever trying
To show a truthful view of life
With all its pain and love and strife
Jean Armour was his treasured lass
Sweet words to her old Rab did pass
And though other women caught his ‘een’
Auld Rabbie was fair stuck on Jean.
His fame has spread all round the earth
From Nova Scotia up to Perth
His life, well lived, will never end
Toast Robert Burns, all mankind’s friend
